Premiere of “The Ambition of Ghosts” a Double Concerto for Violin and Viola, String Orchestra, and Radios

The Ambition of Ghosts" is a double concerto for violin and viola, string orchestra, and radios that explores the intersection of technology and magic.

"The Ambition of Ghosts" is a double concerto for violin and viola, string orchestra, and radios that explores the intersection of technology and magic. It is inspired by the history of the radio as well as the cultural fascination with spiritual mediums and séances in the early twentieth century. The piece features rare recordings of Leslie Flint, a famous direct-voice medium, transmitted to several portable radios performed by the accompanying ensemble. Throughout the work, the performers are asked to explore the musical and metaphorical relationships between signal and noise. "The Ambition of Ghosts" celebrates nearly ten years of collaboration with andPlay, beginning with "Bezier" (2013) and "Apocrypha" (2017).

Performed by andPlay, Argus Quartet, The Rhythm Method, Tristan Kasten Krause, and Pat Swoboda.

"dimvoid," performed by Adrianne Munden-Dixon on "Lung" on Gold Bolus Recordings

dimvoid is written for violin and electronics and is an exploration of liminal spaces and expressive thresholds. It was composed for Adrianne Munden-Dixon in 2022

dimvoid is written for violin and electronics and is an exploration of liminal spaces and expressive thresholds. The title is inspired by Samuel Beckett's Worstward Ho, whose persistent and permutational wordplay influenced much of dimvoid's motivic vocabulary. The oxymoronic sensory depictions of light, void, and emotion also recalled the many contradictions reported in Near-Death Experiences (NDEs), sensations of "being drawn into a tunnel or darkness" "brilliant light, sometimes at the end of the tunnel" and an "overwhelming peace, well-being, or absolute, unconditional love." dimvoid seeks expression in light, voids, and contradiction. It was composed for Adrianne Munden-Dixon in 2022
